URHO KEKKONEN NATIONAL PARK

One of Finland's largest protected areas and one of the most popular hiking area. The huge expanse of the park covers magnificent fells, broad mires and backwoods. Reindeer husbandry, hunting and fishing have long traditions in the region. Urho Kekkonen National Park is an inviting place for visitors to hike during all seasons.

 

 

Koilliskaira Visitor Centre provides information on the history of Urho Kekkonen National Park or Koilliskaira. Visitors also learn about the area's versatile nature, and the history of nature utilisation and hiking in Lapland. During summer, there are four different nature trails in the vicinity of the Visitors Centre. There are a Lapp pole tent and a campfire site along the three, six and seven kilometer-long gravel path is accessible by wheelchair (assistance is needed) and pram.

Other times open by arrangement. Groups visits are possible when them agreed. Group tours and guided tours must be booked beforehand. During the opening hours access free of charge.
